Electroplating Practice
This page provides exercises in solving problems involving electroplating of metals. You will be using Faraday's laws of electrolysis to calculate the mass of metal deposited, the current required, or the time needed for the plating process.
Your fundamental equation is:
m = (M * I * t) / (n * F)
where m is the mass of the metal deposited, M is the molar mass of the metal in grams, I is the current in amperes (Coulombs per second), t is the time in seconds, n is the number of electrons involved in the electrochemical reaction, and F is Faraday's constant (approximately 96485 C/mol).
- When you press "New Problem", a new problem will be generated. You may be asked to calculate the mass of metal plated, the current required, or the time needed. Enter your answer in the box and press "Check Answer". If you are unsuccessful in solving the problem, you will have the option to receive a complete step-by-step explanation. Once you receive the problem solution, you will no longer be able to submit an answer for that problem.
